Frequently Asked Questions

Health One's Worksite Laboratory Wellness Tests

Do I need to make an appointment?
Please refer to the publicity. For many events, we ask for appointments to insure we are adequately staffed & supplied, and to make sure you don’t have to wait in line. We take walk-ins if it will not adversely affect the screening experience for the appointment holders.

Who can participate?
Most organizations open the screening only to their employees. If spouses or retirees are eligible to participate, then that information will be conveyed to you in the publicity for the event. We require the participant to be at least 18 years old.

Who pays for the service?
Please refer to the publicity released at your worksite. If there is a participation charge, it will be clearly listed.

What tests should I order?
If your employer is paying, the lab test available to you has already been established. If you are paying, the publicity will list the options and prices. You will not need to make a decision until the screening day. To learn more about all the tests, we recommend the web site labtestsonline.org that is run by the American Clinical Laboratory Association, or your personal physician.

Do I need to fast?
Refer to the event publicity. The Comprehensive Health Profile, Lipid Profile, and VAP Cholesterol Test are the usual fasting tests (please don’t fast if you are diabetic or pregnant without consulting with your physician first).

Who will see my Laboratory Results?
Health One will only provide your results to you. We encourage you to share them with your physician, but that is up to you. We never share your results with insurance companies, employers, or family members unless we have your consent.

How do I do my On-Line Health Assessment?
With some events, a follow-up One Line Health Assessment is made available to participants. In such a case, we will set-up an account for you after we draw your blood, and, then send you an access code and information with you lab results.

How do I pay for the tests?
We accept cash, personal checks and Visa and Mastercard credit cards. We (Health One) will bring one or more receptionists to the worksite screening event to greet you, answer questions about the test choices, and accept payment.

Will health insurance pay for these tests?
Probably not, though we’ll give you a receipt. Most plans require “medical necessity” evidenced by a physician’s prescription and ICD-9 diagnostic code (normally involving an office visit) to qualify for reimbursement. Below are the CPT codes for our tests in case you want to ask your health insurer in advance:

   Comprehensive Health Profile: 80053, 85025, and 80061. VAP Cholesterol 83701 & 84478
   PSA 84153, Cardio C-RP 86141, Hemoglobin A1c 83036, TSH 84443, UA 81001

Will Medicare or Medicare pay for these tests?  No, for the reasons above and others.

How long will the paperwork and blood draw take?   About 15 minutes.

How do I get my results? We mail the results to your home address in 7 days or less.

Will I be able to understand  my results?
Probably, however, it will be your responsibility to consult with your own physician if you have any questions or concerns. Each lab test result will include a reference range of values so you can readily determine if your result is statistically normal or abnormal. If you have internet access, we recommend the web site labtestsonline.org for more background information on the tests and their meaning. In the final analysis, though, there is no good substitute for a consultation and exam with your personal physician.

What if my tests are abnormal?
Ethically and legally (CLIA rule 88) we can not interpret your lab results, prescribe treatment or make a diagnosis. Certainly, call us if you have an administrative question about your test result, but we will refer medical questions back to your physician.

What experience does Health One have in this business?
We have been doing worksite lab testing events since 1980. We partner with the leading, certified laboratories that your physician probably uses as well. Most of our employees have been with the company for 10 years or more.

Can I get a special lab test that is not one on your list?
Not in the worksite setting due to the extra time it would take and the inconvenience it would cause other participants. Also, not all lab tests are appropriate for a screening event, in our opinion. Often, though, we can provide special testing in our office by appointment.

The Leading U.S. Lab prices are derived from the 2003 price list provided to Health One from a leading national laboratory. The two leading national laboratories also require a physician’s prescription, which may entail the cost of an office visit as well.

DAT (Direct Access Testing) Services are national web-based service providers that require you to prepay by internet or phone for laboratory tests. It’s Direct because no physician’s prescription is required, and for this reason it is not allowed in all states (most though). Once paid, the DAT provider will mail you laboratory requisition forms and direct you to visit an affiliated local draw station to have your blood drawn. Test results come to you in the mail.  Health One now offers DAT testing. For more information see our other website: www.healthonelabs.com
